Hi Chuck-

Thanks!

I don't know their work but will look it up; there are so many digital projects these days. I know the Herculaneum project people also scan carbonized rolls. And there is good success with epipgraphy. I will try to post more information on these projects and the technology.

Have you followed the work of Ross Scaife and Brent Seales at the University of Kentucky? I don't know if Brent had kept on working on this since Ross died, but the project was showing some real promise towards the possibility of reading rolled papyrus and cartonage without having to pull it apart.

Have a look at <a href="http://www.research.uky.edu/odyssey/fall04/seales.html" rel="nofollow">Unwrapping the Secrets of Damaged Manuscripts</a>

I dont know any story off the top of my head, but Breasted, being trained in Berlin, and obtaining a nice copy of the bust, may be behind it. Anything in Pioneer to the past??

Say Joe, can you remember any back story on why the OI used the Nefertiti bust on the "famous" poster (which I use on the left side of this : http://oihistory.blogspot.com/ )? It seems to me I once knew.

So my blog has made it's way to a Professor at Yale. I must have done something wrong. Haha. Just kidding. I just wanted to take a second and say thank-you for adding The Adventurist to your blogroll and linking me in a couple of articles. It is always nice to know I have readers out there, and even more nice when I learn some of them are fellow bloggers. Good luck with your blog.

Cheers-
